NEW PRAYER MINISTRY

Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Altoona-Johnstown has added a prayer ministry to our services and we are seeking prayer partners. Please consider joining us in prayer. Every Friday we pray for those who ask for special intentions, for the marginalized, the vulnerable and all clients seeking assistance from Catholic Charities. As our prayer partner, together we will bring the requests before our Heavenly Father to ask Him to meet the needs of His people. Praying together as a community of faith, we are brothers and sisters – one family – in the Lord. Prayer is one of the gifts we can give to each other at no extra cost. To request prayers, please visit our website: www.catholiccharitiesaj.org. For more information on how to participate and spend time in prayer for those in need, please contact Lisa Fellabaum, Outreach Liaison, at (814) 505-1106 or by email at lfellabaum@dioceseaj.org.

Eucharistic Revival

Eucharistic Revival – “My Flesh for the life of the world.” John 6:51 Our Diocese launched a Eucharistic Revival along with Dioceses throughout the United States on the Feast of Corpus Christi, June 19, 2022. Together we embarked on a three-year National Eucharistic Revival. The Theme is “My flesh for the life of the World.” Our Mission is to renew the Church by enkindling a living relationship with the Lord in the Eucharist. The revival is a personal call, a parish call, and a diocesan call. The Vision is for Catholics across the United States to become unified by an encounter with Jesus in and through the Eucharist where we are invited to experience his true presence. In this first year 2022-23, we plan to have a Diocesan Day, September 17, with Priests from our diocese highlighting the Eucharist and inviting us to acknowledge that now is the time to RECOGNINZE JESUS AGAIN in the breaking of the Bread and receiving his presence. We will also provide Eucharistic Readings for Small Group Faith Sharing during the Advent and Lenten Season. Stay tuned to Proclaim for updates and highlights.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

On Wednesday, August 24th is Sister Linda’s birthday.  Please remember to extend your birthday wishes to her and thank her for all that she does for us.  With gratitude we thank her for the countless blessings she offers to our parish family and faith community.  Let us keep her in our thoughts and prayers, that our good and gracious God, the Giver of all good things continue to bless her with happiness and good health of body, mind and spirit. You can mail your cards to her or place them in a special box in the back of the church.

GIFTS FROM THE HOLY LAND

We will have a display of beautiful and authentic olive wood carvings from the Holy Land the weekend of August 27 & 28, before and after masses in the vestibule of our church. The Christians of the Holy Land have been suffering and continue to live in difficult economical situations.  Olive wood carvings are part of a tradition handed down from one generation to another. Christian Families of Bethlehem have worked close to 2,000 years to protect the Holy sites in Bethlehem, Jerusalem, Nazareth, and to spread the word of Jesus. For about the last 1,000 years they used carvings to keep the Bible alive in dimensions. Their mission is to support our fellow Christians in the Holy Land by selling some of their olive wood carvings which are a major source of their income.  Proceeds from the sale will benefit Christian families in Bethlehem, Holy Land. In the last century Christians were 37% of the Holy Land population but today they are only 5%. By your support through the purchasing of these wood carvings, 200 Christian families will be helped and will be able to remain in the Holy Land. As a form of payment for these unique gifts they accept cash, checks and credit cards. Father Jozef will gladly bless any items you purchase.

Deepest Sympathy

As you may know, Carmelite Sister of the Word, Karen Elizabeth Duddy, finished her earthly journey on Sunday, July 31.  Our parish family would like to extend our deepest sympathy and sincere condolences to her family, to Sister Linda and all the CCW sisters.  With deepest gratitude for the countless blessings she brought, over many years, to our various schools, parishes and communities throughout our diocese, let us pray for Sister Karen, may our good and gracious God, the Giver of all life, grant her eternal peace in His kingdom and her family and religious community comfort and strength as they mourn her passing.
